What are Shower Liners?

Shower Liners. A shower liner is a fabric, plastic or vinyl curtain designed to hang inside the bathtub and keep the water in the shower. Because it is there for the purpose of protecting your bathroom from splashing and spills it is the most vital part of the curtain and liner combination.

Why do I need a shower liner?

Liners also keep your very expensive and beautiful shower curtains free from mildew or mold but that’s not always the case.

Mold and Mildew

Bathroom Molds may be pink or red and others are just plain black or dark green. Some of the mold colonies growing on a shower liner may come in multiple colors and not just one or the other. Either way it has to Go!

Bathroom Mold exposures have a variety of health effects depending on the person. Some people are more sensitive to mold than others. Exposure to mold can cause a number of health issues.

What to do when you have Mold or Mildew on your shower liner or Shower curtain?

Wash it!!

First things first; the shower curtain and liner need to be removed from the shower bar or taken down by whatever means it has been suspended above the floor.

Sometimes, the soap-scum buildup is more difficult to get rid of than the mold and mildew. Either way, it’s all gotta go because the soap-scum buildup (cellulose material) is what the mold is feeding on.

CAN I WASH IT?

Yes! Vinyl and fabric liners are fine for washing and drying but do make a note sometimes the discoloration from ,mildew or mold never comes out. You have to properly care for your liners.

Plastic? Yes, but you will get a watery mess as it doesn’t drain the water well you will have to shake off the excess water outdoors to release the water. Note: Do not DRY plastic liners.

Still got Stubborn Stains after your wash?

Re-wash and substitute your normal detergent with a ½ cup of bleach (check care labels first) to add to your laundry detergent. Put your washing machine on a gentle cycle and put it through its paces – gently!

ECO Way: Add ½ cup of baking soda or borax to equal parts of laundry detergent and wash the shower curtain on gentle. Put a few old towels in with the curtain liner to help protect it from the washing cycle.

After your shower curtain is mold and mildew free, you can hang the shower liner to air-dry or toss in the dryer (on low/gentle settings) with a few towels mixed in to protect the curtain from damage. DO NOT TRY PLASTIC LINERS

How to avoid liners from getting moldy?

after every shower rinse all soap residue from your liners as it will help prolong the life of the liner. Then scratch it out and allow it to dry. Your bathroom needs proper ventilation so turn on the bathroom fan or crack a window.
